Childhood Dreams

As a young child, I had big dreams. Dreams of princesses, knights in shining armor, mysterious spies, and breathtaking horses. Now that I have grown up a little, I still have ongoing dreams. One of the dreams I’ve had since I was young was to become an interior designer. Honestly, I knew nothing about what that meant, but when I was little, my mother had books filled with pictures on interior designs and decorations. She had begun her college degree in interior design and I used to sit for hours and look at the pictures in her books as I dreamed up house designs.
Now that I have begun my ELI on interior design, I’ve been able to follow my dreams more in depth and I’m learning lots! Interior designers aren’t necessarily crazy people with wild ideas. They have a passion for the arts and work to improve the environment in which people live. They fulfill this by learning all that they can, choosing a path of expertise, and using different methods to expand their ideas. To start off, new designers learn everything from the architecture of a building to the colors, rhythms, patterns, and styles used in various interiors. There are many different routes to a career in interior design: home, commercial, health care, wellness, and wayfinding (which means creatively placing signs to help people find their way around). Along with the various paths a designer could take there are many methods for processing designs.
As my childhood dream has come together, like pieces in a puzzle, I’ve been able to see a clearer picture of what I would like to do next. The first piece was to figure out exactly what interior design is and for the next piece I have decided to further study home and commercial design. These two areas will help me to make homes a better environment to live in and to create fun and beautiful work areas for the public. Another piece, that I would also like to learn about are the different methods of creating a design. Right now, the puzzle is still missing pieces, but as I further my studies, my dream is slowly coming together.
